INTRODUCTION

I am very excited this week. The vision of FireKnights is to save the lost and inspire the saved to move in Christ. The vision of the Round Table Report is to have those who move in Christ share their testimonies so that we can all be lifted up in praising God and realizing that God does in fact work miracles in this day and age, in essence to equip the saints for the work of Christ. This week, my dear and closest friend, Kevin, sent me a testimony of what is happening in his life and I am just bubbling over to post it here and share this with everyone.

TO BEGIN WITH

About two weeks ago my wife Kim and I moved from Oklahoma City to Washington D.C., where she’s working on a two-month temporary assignment. We’re amazed at how God has worked things out to get here, as well as how He’s provided for our needs consistently.

TESTIMONY

The Wednesday before we came here (just two days before we started the drive), we still hadn’t found a place to live. Then Kim browsed Sublet.net one last time to see if there was anything suitable (read: affordable), and there was a new listing that was pretty much ideal for us. Instead of paying $2,000-3,000 for a one bedroom apartment, we’re now renting a two bedroom furnished basement from a family in Alexandria for only $1,200 a month. (We know, it sound ridiculously expensive, but compared to the other options, it’s practically as steal.) As if that wasn’t enough, the wife of the family also volunteers at a church daycare, so our 4-year old son Kyler was able to sign up for half days after the very first week. :) Couple that with the fact that the basement is pre-stocked with toys, games and DVD’s and the family has a ten-year old who loves to play with Kyler, and we can’t stop shaking our heads at how much God has blessed us in the move here. :)

On a side note, we’re still seeing what’s going to come about in the way of finances. Our primary motivation for the move was to make money. Because her job pays her an extra $250 a day ON TOP of her standard salary, we were supposed to be making an extra $6-8,000 out here. Unfortunately, just before we moved out Kim received a company- wide memo which basically stated a massive change in the policy. Now her company will only reimburse employees for “actual expenses” up to $250, instead of giving the employees the option of finding cheaper alternatives and pocketing the extra. (Bottom line? Next time we’re stayin’ in the Ritz if we’re not making money and it’s covered… as will every other employee on temporary assignment. All this policy does is ensure people will spend the entire $250, but instead of the employees getting the extra cash options, it’s just going to be funneled to the hotel people…)

At any rate, the $250 a day has now dwindled to, say, $60 (for food allowance). :\ So we might still make a little bit of money, but not a lot. Still, we know that God is in control of the situation, and whether He wants us to make a buttload of money or just one cheek’s worth, we’ll go along with His plan. The verse that keeps coming to mind is Psalms 112:7.

SCRIPTURE

7 “He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”

Psalm 112:7

Making less money might SEEM like a bad thing, but we’re looking at the small picture. There might well be another reason we’re out here, why He’s opened the doors to bring us here these two months. Perhaps it’s to meet people, or get some kind of experience to use in the future, or maybe there’s going to be a huge tornado in Oklahoma He wanted us to escape. Who knows? But we’re resisting the impulse to look at our situation from a wholly negative viewpoint.

TO END WITH

We’re just little people, with eyes that can only see so much, you know? There’s more to life than the physical world around us, and the sooner we keep this in the forefront of our minds, the sooner we can relax and trust in God’s ability to guide us faithfully.

CONCLUSION

Awesome testimony Kevin and thanks for sharing. Remember if you have a testimony drop me an email at rtr@fireknights.net with “Testimony” as the subject and share what God has been doing in your life. Yours may be the next one to appear on the Round Table Report.
